Governor John Bel Edwards has lifted the statewide mask mandate following the state showing sustained improvement in terms of new cases, test positivity and hospitalizations.
However, this is not a complete lifting. Gov. Edwards is still maintaining the mandate in K-12 schools while also saying that there is an opt out procedure for K-12 schools, but they have to meet the CDC guidelines.
“While the K-12 mask mandate will be in place, school districts can opt out if they follow the existing, evidence-based CDC quarantine guidance," Edwards said.
While the mask mandate may be lifted state wide, CDC guidance still suggests that everyone 2 years of age or older who is not fully vaccinated should wear a mask in indoor public places. It goes on to add that fully vaccinated people should wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area with high transmission.
The mask mandate was reinstated on August 2, 2021, in response to the rise in cases due to the Delta variant.
To learn more about where to find a vaccine or receive vaccine information, visit www.vaccines.gov. At Greater, we are still encouraging mask usage as well as social/physical distancing. Read more about the updated guidance below.

Let's also honor all those who are serving in our armed forces and their families who are sacrificing so much today.
